“Moose, What’s Your Talent”

Series 2 Book 8: by Ray Perseghin, Sara K Enterprises, ©All Rights Reserved

All the friends had gathered ’round

On snowman’s hill outside of town.

All talking of the year just passed,

And wishing that the fun could last.

But now the time had come for them

To think of future plans again.

The special things that they could do

With all their talents as they grew.

“I want to travel everywhere”

Moose said as they were gathered there.

Then walrus said, “I think it’s nice

When I just lay down on the ice.”

Geese said, “But walrus, don’t you know

Of some goal you have as you grow?”

He said, “Well yes, and all that’s fine,

But I think there is still plenty time.”

Bears said, “But if you start right now,

You’ll be ahead of all the crowd.”

“Yes, maybe that all works for you,

But not much a walrus can do.”

The penguins said, “You’ve got to dream.

Things are not always as they seem.”

Then walrus said, “I’ll never fly.

Only the geese are in the sky.

And I will never ever run.

So sometimes I miss all the fun.

And climbing trees is not my style.

So I’ll just lay here for a while.”

Then all the friends just went away,

And walrus did not come to play.

But as they walked down to the sea,

They saw the ice had broken free.

Both boy and girl stood near the edge,

But nowhere could they see their sled.

They saw sled tracks and they all knew

That the big sled had broken through.

The penguins said, “We’ll go dive down

To see if their sled can be found.”

So, through the ice, way down they dove

And tried to give the sled a shove.

But it was big and they were small.

They could not move the sled at all.

They rose and yelled, “We need some help.”

And then they heard a walrus ‘Yelp’.

Sliding down across the snow,

Into the sea they saw him go.

Walrus gave the sled a jerk

And somehow all his pulling worked.

Up and up the big sled rose.

Then walrus pushed it with his nose.

The boy and girl just screamed with glee,

As now all of the friends could see

The special talent walrus had.

There was no reason to be sad.

Snowman just smiled, as if to say,

“Our big strong walrus saved the day.”
