Series I Book 7: “Moose , I Want To Be … ” Author’s Discussion

This story builds on a theme that was presented in book #3 “Moose, We Like You Too”. Here we note that each person is unique and has special individual talents. In the previous book, #6, we tried to show, not subtly, that some special talents are not shared by everyone, and that we need to recognize just what our own talents are and build upon them.

Here we find Moose asking, “What do you want to be when you grow up?’ This interrogative is always fun and allows for some very imaginative playtime. It provides the opportunity to dream the impossible dream. It allows constructive thinking and forces us to push on the envelope that restricts our goals. There is always the need to recognize, at an early age, that we are both different and useful. That we can identify our talents and use them to achieve our goals. As well as recognizing that there are things that we are not able to do and that this is OK too.

Moose goes through this process by dreaming of many things that he would like to do and then realizing that some of these things are not within his realm of accomplishment. The metaphor of the Northern Lights shows us the ever-changing nature of our individual lives as we grow, not just physically, but in experience, education, and emotion, every day.
